History of Colonization in Canada and Understand the Impacts of Colonialism

This course provides a foundational exploration into the complex history of colonization in Canada and its enduring legacy on Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis). We will journey beyond standard historical narratives to examine the systemic structures - such as the Indian Act, the Residential School system, and the Sixties Scoop - designed to disrupt Indigenous sovereignty and culture. By centering Indigenous perspectives and voices, this course moves beyond a simple timeline of events. It challenges learners to confront the contemporary impacts of colonialism while celebrating the profound resilience and resurgence of Indigenous communities across the country.
